Puddi Chutney

This recipe is an alternative to the coconut chutney served along Idli, dosa or rice or akki rotti . A very simple recipe you can try right now at your home . So now let see how to prepare Puddi chutney or chutney pudi the konkani style!!

2 cups of dry roasted fried gram dal(Hurikadale)
half cup of Chana dal
10 byadi red chillies
1 bunch of curry leaves(10-12 twigs)
2 inch of tamarind (dont use tamarind paste)
1 teaspoon of Hing(Asafoedita)
1 cup dry roasted  coconut scrapes(Khobren or Kobri).
Salt to taste,
  • Dry roast Hurikadale(fried gram dal),Chana dal , red chillies, curry leaves,Khobren(Kobri), hing one by one separately (See to it that it doesnot burn). Keep them aside . Let them cool.
  • Grind all the above ingredients in a grinder. Make Semi fine powder(not too fine , not too coarse ).
  • Store in air tight container .
Serve with Idli/dosa/rotti/rice. (drizzzle some coconut oil /Ghee for added taste).
